Transgender civil rights is a new legal issue that requires not only a grasp of legal principles, but an understanding of the social background from which they emerge. Gender identity and expression is not unique to those who identify themselves as transgender, and includes those who are gender non-conforming and non-binary, as well as those of more traditional gender identities. In this practical webinar, you will learn about substantive legal issues in various contexts including employment, health care, schools, government, public accommodations, and incarceration and detention.
Upon course completion, you will be able to:
- Define transgender issues within the larger context of diversity and inclusion
- Recognize implicit and explicit bias against transgender and gender non-conforming people
- Identify barriers to equal access to justice
- Consider cultural and other differences when interacting with transgender and gender non-conforming clients, parties, attorneys, and other legal actors
