In this practical webinar, Excel expert, David Ringstrom, CPA, briefly discusses the IF function and then, in detail, takes you beyond the basics. You will learn what can go awry with the IF function and ways to improve the integrity of your decision-making formulas. You will also learn alternatives to the IF function, including IFNA, MINIFS, SUMPRODUCT, and others. You will learn from the assertion that if you’re nesting more than a couple of IF functions, there’s probably a more refined and resilient approach you can take.
You will see each technique demonstrated at least twice: first, on a PowerPoint slide with
numbered steps, and second, in Excel 2019. You will identify differences in Excel 2016, 2013, or
2010 and will receive detailed handouts. You will also receive an Excel workbook that includes
the examples presented during the webinar.
You will learn how to:
- Test for two or more alternate conditions by way of the OR function
- Avoid the complexity of nested IF statements with Excel’s CHOOSE function
- Use the MINIFS function available in certain versions of Excel 2016
- Use the COUNTIF function to determine the number of times an item appears on a list
- Employ the capabilities of the SUMPRODUCT function
- Transform SUM, MIN, and MAX into multi-criteria array formulas
- Evaluate the pros, cons, and limitations of nesting IF functions
- Test for a single condition among two or more that returns TRUE by way of Excel’s XOR function
- Compare the MIN, SMALL, MAX, and LARGE functions
- Use the SUMIF function to summarize data based on a single criterion
- Determine when you might use ISERROR or ISNA instead of IFERROR
- Return the inverse of a TRUE/FALSE test by way of Excel’s NOT function
