Ben Cooper practices appellate advocacy in federal and state courts across the country. Based in Steptoe and Johnson’s Phoenix and San Francisco offices, Ben is the author of Federal Appellate Practice: Ninth Circuit (2016-2017 ed.), a 1,800-page treatise published by Thomson Reuters, and is respected as a leading practitioner before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Mr. Cooper is a past chair of the American Bar Association’s Council of Appellate Lawyers, the Appellate Lawyer Representatives to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference, and the State Bar of Arizona’s Appellate Practice Section. He began his legal career as a law clerk to Ninth Circuit Judge Alex Kozinski. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School.
