The Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA’s) respirable crystalline silica rule was published in 2016 but has come into effect over time. While most requirements for construction, general industry, and maritime are now in effect, a few new provisions are still to come. Furthermore, OSHA has now reopened its rule (with an October 14th comment deadline) to consider further changes, including the expansion of “Table 1” and inclusion of medical removal requirements. In this practical webinar, you will learn about:
- The basic requirements for exposure monitoring
- Written exposure control plans
- Basic training requirements under the Silica and Hazard Communication rules for silica-containing work environments
- Medical surveillance and evaluation
- Respiratory protection requirements
Among other things, you will:
- Review the basic requirements of the existing rule
- Address the prospects for change to assist in preparation of comments
- Recap the first two years of enforcement experience and what it means for employers
Upon course completion, you will be able to:
- Determine whether “Table 1” can be used in your workplace and how these requirements must be implemented
- Effectively develop an exposure monitoring plan, identify basic IH issues, and successfully use “objective data” to satisfy the rule in lieu of personal sampling
- Identify the unique training requirements under the silica standard versus those required under OSHA’s hazard communication rule
- Assess whether a respiratory protection program and training will be triggered by your sampling results, and how the requirements differ between construction and general industry standards
- Determine when written exposure control plans must be modified and who can serve as a competent person for their implementation
- Outline which sections of the silica rule have been the subject of strenuous enforcement – and why
