On February 28, 2022, the California Department of Public Health issued an order providing new recommendations and requirements on the use of face coverings in certain circumstances and industry sectors. Effective March 1, 2022, the requirement that unvaccinated individuals mask in indoor public settings moved to a strong recommendation that all persons, regardless of vaccine status, continue indoor masking. This order supersedes the general masking requirement in the Cal/OSHA ETS. However, other face covering requirements within the ETS
remain in place, including provisions requiring face coverings during outbreaks and on employer-provided transportation.
