Michael Johnson

Michael Johnson is CEO of Clear Law Institute.

After graduating from Duke University and Harvard Law School, Michael served as a U.S. Department of Justice attorney. He was the lead attorney on one of Department of Justice’s first “pattern or practice” sexual harassment cases.

As CEO of Clear Law Institute, Michael Johnson oversees the production and legal accuracy of Clear Law Institute’s online sexual harassment training, which is used by more than 1 million employees of more than 800 clients. Michael also oversees the production and legal accuracy of Clear Law Institute’s other online compliance training courses and its more than 2,300 continuing education webinars.

Michael is one of the world’s leading experts on research-based methods for investigating workplace misconduct and detecting signs of deception.  He has provided training on how to investigate sexual harassment claims and other workplace misconduct for organizations around the world, including government agencies such as the EEOC and the Social Security Administration, international organizations such as the United Nations and the World Bank, and dozens of Fortune 500 companies such as Google, FedEx, and Northrop Grumman.

Michael has served as an expert witness in cases evaluating the adequacy of employer’s investigations of sexual harassment cases.  

Michael has spoken at numerous conferences around the world for HR, legal, and other professionals. He frequently speaks at conferences hosted by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Society for Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE), and Compliance Week. He also speaks for state and provincial bar associations, such as the Oregon State Bar, the Oklahoma State Bar, and the CLE Society of British Columbia.

Michael’s investigations training has been featured in articles in the Wall Street Journal and the New Yorker magazine. Michael is also one of the leading experts in harassment law in the country. 

Prior to founding Clear Law Institute in 2011, Michael co-founded and served as the co-CEO of Brightline Compliance, which was one of the first providers of online sexual harassment training. Brightline Compliance provided online sexual harassment training and online compliance training for more than 1 million employees of more than 600 employers.
