COVID-19 Safe Workplace training
Washington Mandates COVID-19
Workplace Safety Training
According to COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Washington Department of Labor & Industries (L&I), Division of Occupational Safety and Health, “basic workplace hazard education about the coronavirus must be provided to employees in a language they best understand.” The COVID-19 guidelines also outline specific required topics for workplace safety training.
The Washington Division of Occupational Safety and Health has the authority to enforce the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act and related workplace rules, which apply to nearly all employers in the state.
Additionally, on November 15, 2020, the Governor of Washington issued Proclamation 20-25.8 requiring employers to comply with:
all conditions for operations required by L&I, including interpretive guidance, regulations, rules, and L&I administered status; and
mandatory state guidelines for businesses and activities, including COVID-19 Reopening Guidance for Businesses and Workers.
Many of these industry guidelines, including retail and professional services, also specifically require employers to educate employees about the coronavirus, how to prevent transmission, and the employer’s COVID-19 policies in a language they best understand.
