Terry Thomas has had a 27-year career spanning law, business, education, ethics, and enterprise risk management. Through his career, Terry has held senior management positions in both private industry and public service. As Vice President of Ethics and Business Conduct at Premera Blue Cross, he led that company’s ethics, compliance and enterprise risk management programs, and served as its privacy officer.
From 2003-2006, he was the Vice President of Ethics Operations for MCI, serving as part of the turnaround team that led that company out of scandal and through its successful emergence from bankruptcy.
Before joining MCI, Terry was the executive director of the Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission (SEEC). As Seattle’s top ethics official, he presided over a number of high profile and significant ethics and campaign finance matters.
Prior to assuming the role with the SEEC, he held a wide variety of positions in business, law, and ethics at The Boeing Company.
Terry began his career as a lawyer, both in private practice and as a trial attorney with the United States Department of Justice.
Terry holds a BA from the University of Maryland, a JD from Washington University in St Louis, and an MBA from the University of Washington. He has taught at the university undergraduate and graduate levels, and is a frequent speaker and published author on the subject of ethics, compliance, and ethical leadership. He is also an automotive journalist and nationally certified high performance driving instructor for the Porsche Club of America.
