Michael W. Johnson is CEO of Clear Law Institute. As a former attorney in the United States Department of Justice, Mr. Johnson investigated and litigated cases against employers around the country. He was the lead attorney on one of DOJ’s first “pattern or practice” sexual harassment cases.
Mr. Johnson has trained thousands of human resource professionals, compliance and ethics officers, attorneys, auditors, and others how to lawfully and effectively investigate allegations of employee misconduct. Organizations such as the EEOC, SHRM, and SCCE frequently ask Mr. Johnson to speak at their conferences on how to properly conduct internal investigations and spot deception in investigative interviews.
The United Nations selected Mr. Johnson to consult on revisions to its harassment policies and to provide investigative training to its staff in New York and in its peacekeeping missions in the Congo and Sierra Leone. Mr. Johnson has served as an expert witness testifying to the adequacy of employers’ internal investigations of alleged employee misconduct.
Mr. Johnson has trained thousands of employees in person and using webinar technology on preventing workplace harassment, employment law for supervisors, and other compliance topics. As co-founder and co-CEO of Brightline Compliance, Mr. Johnson wrote online training course on ethics and compliance topics that were used by more than 1.5 million employees of more than 600 organizations. (Mr. Johnson and his partner sold Brightline Compliance in 2007). Mr. Johnson’s compliance courses were praised for their instructional design. In reviewing a harassment prevention course written and produced by Mr. Johnson, the American Society for Training and Development’s T&D Magazine wrote, “Finally, an exciting e-learning experience!”
